Lyra Classes

Lyra is a circular steel ring similar to a hula hoop that’s suspended in the air by a cable or any lengthy cord attached to the ceiling.

You’ll find strength and balance in this apparatus as you work to find aerial flight!

Intro to Lyra Series

We typically limit classes to one person per aerial apparatus. We are serious about safety and our rigging is state of the art, with each rig point able to hold up to 1 ton of weight!

We offer many modifications to give everyone the opportunity to experience this beautiful apparatus.

Lyra 1 Series

Open Lyra

  • This is a class for those who have no experience with Lyra, or have had only a few weeks or months of classes. We focus on familiarizing you with the lyra, and teach basic upright poses, mounts, and transitions.

You’ll learn about the body mechanics by which you get up and stay up in the air: hollow body engagement, double knee and hip hangs, and your “shelves”, among other poses.

It’s OK if you can’t pull your body weight up yet! We work on conditioning that helps you get there, and also work with a low-hung lyra so you can focus on the mechanics of specific poses and balance.

Most of all, we want you to have fun, feel accomplished, and enjoy the feel of being in a magical hoop up in the air! Take your time in this level - there is so much to learn!

Attire: please wear leggings and something to cover your midriff and arm pits.

  • This is not a beginner class!

This intermediate level class is for those who are more comfortable with the lyra, can mount and dismount comfortably on their own, and have basic upright posts they can transition easily to and from. In addition to richer, deeper conditioning, you’ll increase your repertoire of aerial poses and transitions and work on all levels of the Lyra - top, bottom, and middle. Discover interesting shapes, poses, and combine them your way as you get more comfortable with our magical hoop!

    Prerequisites:

3-8 Beginner Lyra classes are recommended or previous lyra experience. Must be able to mount the lyra one way without help, and move comfortably between foundational beginner poses such as Mermaid, Cradle, or Man on the Moon, unassisted.

  • This intermediate level class is for those who can mount and dismount comfortably without instructor assistance, and can connect multiple foundational upright poses with ease. Conditioning intensifies in this class as we ramp up for span set work and introduce spinning to our practice.

This class will assist in increasing your repertoire of aerial poses and transitions. At this level, in addition to instructor-led combos, you are also expected to build your own mini-sequences. Discover interesting shapes, poses, and combine them your way as you get more comfortable with this apparatus.

    Prerequisites:

    - Comfortable mounting the apparatus 3 different ways to a sit
    - Dismounting without using momentum
    - Solid double knee and hip hang
    - Front balance, hands can touch Lyra but not push weight on it
    - Comfortable with stringing together 3-4 basic poses

  • In this advanced level we focus on building endurance, and expanding your repertoire of combos and poses. We spend a lot of time above the lyra working on and in the spanset, as well as exploring new ways to slide and drop back down to the bottom bar.

It’s recommended for students who have been in Lyra 2 for several months. Students will build their aerial repertoire with more challenging poses, passes, and movement. Conditioning and flexibility are a focal point and become increasingly important in deeping your lyra practice. Get ready to really fly!

Prerequisites. Must meet Lyra 2 requirements plus:

    - Solid single knee hang
    - Ability to hold your straddle layback comfortably with no hands

  • In Lyra Flow we concentrate on quality of movement and connecting sequences and shapes that you have learned in your leveled Lyra classes. This class will give you the tools and the confidence to start exploring your own movement style. Guided assignments and skills provided by your instructor will help you connect your head with your body, and deepen your lyra experience.

This class is not for beginners, but is aimed at Lyra 2+ students and Lyra 1 students who have know how to mount and do 8-10 transitions and poses on their own.

Prerequisites. Must meet Lyra 1 requirements
